It can be, with strict hygiene and care. Use only smooth toys made for the purpose, sterilise before and after every use, apply plenty of sterile water-based lubricant, and never force anything. Go slowly, stop if you feel sharp pain, and see a doctor if you notice bleeding, burning or difficulty urinating. If you're new, begin with the largest comfortable size rather than the thinnest, as very thin sounds require more skill.

How do I choose a size?

Sizes are measured in millimetres of diameter. Beginners are usually most comfortable starting a little thicker (around 7–8 mm) since ultra-thin sounds need more control. Sets with several diameters let you build up gradually as you gain confidence.

How do I clean urethral toys?

Wash with warm water and antibacterial toy cleaner, then sterilise steel toys by boiling or with a sterilising solution. Store each piece separately in a clean pouch, and always inspect for scratches or rough spots before use.
